Cannabis edibles and concentrates will not be legal for sale on October 17, 2018. The federal government is expected to legalize the sale of edible and concentrate cannabis products by fall 2019.

While you won’t be able to purchase edibles in retail stores, legal users can make their own. If you use cannabis edibles, keep the following information in mind for safer use.

Effects take longer. Your body has to metabolize a cannabis edible through your stomach, which takes much longer than when you smoke or vape cannabis. It can take 30 to 90 minutes for effects to begin after consuming a cannabis edible, so wait until you know how an edible affects you before consuming more. This is important with edibles so that you do not consume larger amounts and experience more severe intoxication than planned.

Store cannabis safely. If you make your own edibles for personal use with the cannabis you purchase, always clearly label them so others know that they contain cannabis. Like all cannabis products, store edibles safely out of reach of children and pets.
